The rantings of a frustrated California Conservative
I’d like to pass along this link to the Patrick Henry Caucus’ web site.
I think that this is a great idea, and is one step closer to getting a coalition of states unified in their stance against unconstitutional Federal meddling in states’ affairs. The issue is that while many states have, since the mid-1990’s, passed these so-called, “10th Amendment Resolutions”, the unfortunate reality is that these resolutions have no teeth. There is no force of law that compels the Federal government to back off. The Patrick Henry Caucus and other groups (who need to join forces) are suggesting that states pass actual legislation that stipulates that when a certain number of these states enact like-minded legislation that these states will all begin to reject Federal funding for a variety of programs and refusing to implement unconstitutionally mandated Federal policies. It looks like the No Child Left Behind Act will be the first up on the chopping block, as it is largely unpopular in most states and will be the lowest hurdle to vault. The idea is that once Federal money begins to be rejected for this initial program that it will have a snowball effect, with states beginning to reject more and more of Uncle Sam’s illegal transgressions of their rights as sovereign states as outlined in the Constitution.
From the source:
The Patrick Henry Caucus is dedicated to the ideals established by our Founding Fathers as enshrined in the Declaration of Independence and in the Constitution. The Caucus believes the Constitution is an inspired document and should be adhered to strictly as the Founders intended. We consider the Bill of Rights to be the absolute guarantor of the freedoms specified. The Caucus especially emphasizes the tenth amendment. We affirm that the federal government may exercise only those rights and powers that are specifically granted unto it by the Constitution and no others. We reassert the sovereignty and rights of the individual states. As legislators who adhere to these ideals, we unite as The Patrick Henry Caucus, to take like-minded legislative action to this end.
As citizens, we join with legislators in The Patrick Henry Coalition. The Founding Fathers specified that we, the people, have certain “unalienable rights” including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We believe that all Americans ought to be able to make their own decisions and take personal responsibility for them. Join us is in supporting legislators who will enact legislation that will reclaim state and individual rights.

While based in California, this blog serves as a place for myself and my friends to sound off about conservative politics, the scourge of liberalism and Socialism in general. The Republican party has not represented conservative values well in recent years, and has cost us a lot in terms of elections. It is high time for the Republican party to get back to the conservative values that made it great.
